Why We Donate to SRT

“Welcome Theatre Lovers! As luck would have it, after growing up on the East Coast, I decided to move to San Diego 45 years ago because I heard it’s called ‘America’s Finest City’ and I wanted to come and discover how fabulous it truly is! I arrived here about the time Scripps Ranch residents had decided to create a special ‘Country Living’ Community Theatre! I was intrigued because the first time I’d ever been to a play was following my graduation from college when my intuitive mother flew me to New York City to see my very first play  Man of La Mancha on Broadway in 1966. When I heard Richard Kiley sing ‘Impossible Dream’, a feeling of absolute exhilaration came over me that I’d never felt before. That very night the theatre bug bit me and I’ve adored, delighted and been entranced by theatrical productions ever since. I’m honored realizing now how live theatre opens a whole new world of excitement, compassion, expression, understanding, and perception. There’s no other art form with such precedence & power.

“Anne and I support Scripps Ranch Theatre because we believe that it is an outstanding gem in the Theater World of San Diego. I fell in love with theater while I was still in high school and college by acting and serving on the crew for most of those productions. When the opportunity arose for me to become the Executive Director of SRT, I was excited to take on that challenge and to be associated with an excellent theater company once again. The quality of the SRT productions meets the highest standard imaginable.  The people who act, crew, or serve in various functions in the background at SRT are simply first-rate. I am continually in awe of the productions that reach the stage at SRT.  Although I am no longer on the Board of SRT, I certainly want to help this local theater right in our backyard to survive and thrive. Any support provided by donors will make that happen!

“We are so lucky to have such a quality theater in our own neighborhood. We have been long-time donors and attendees at Scripps Ranch Theatre and encourage others to participate. We want to support local arts and talent, and of course we enjoy the wonderful performances. We travel a lot, but the shows play long enough to fit our busy schedule. There is something for everyone:  laughter, suspense, tears, music, drama – all performed by excellent professionals.”

“I have enjoyed being part of SRT for many years, as a donor and a volunteer Board member in a variety of positions. Seeing firsthand the new box office and other theatre improvements, and now having a commemorative plaque on one of our new benches, in part because of our modest donations, is very special. My wife Marty and I appreciate the quality of SRT productions and are grateful to have such a prolific and wonderful theatre in our community.”

“I firmly believe that live theater is an integral part of our lives and a great assistance to critical thinking.

I have been attending performances at SRT for over 20 years and I have been a full season subscriber for about 15 years. The performances are consistently
good and are often outstanding. There is a good mix of comedy, drama, tragedy, and good old-fashioned farce to keep me coming back year after year.

We need to keep our theatres alive and well, and a good way to do this is to attend performances and donate our time and treasure as best as we can.”

Giving Back to the Arts

A law went into effect in 2020 (AB-5) that impacts the way theatres throughout California pay performers and production teams. As a result of this, plus inflation, our production costs have skyrocketed. Please consider making a donation. for more information.
