Scripps Ranch Theatre has announced its 2010-2011 season that includes three comedies, a romantic drama and a mystery-thriller that signals another great year of theater for theatergoers, said Jill Drexler, artistic director.
“We have planned a season that offers a wide range from comedy to a romantic drama and a mystery thriller. We look forward to presenting these fine shows to our subscribers and we believe they will be very well received.”
Season tickets will go on sale in the spring. The shows to be offered include:
Social Security by Andrew Bergman
September 10 - October 9, 2010
Our season starts with a hilarious adult comedy about the shattering of yuppie bliss, the timelessness of romance and an aged Jewish mother who turns her children’s lives upside down in the nicest way. “… you can laugh out loud joyfully … for the play is a hoot and better yet, a sophisticated hoot.” N.Y.Post.
Deathtrap by Ira Levin
November 12 – December 11, 2010
A classic thriller written by the author of Rosemary’s Baby, Deathtrap is an exquisite blend of mystery, thrills and even humor. This gripping tale, told with icy skill, will amuse you, confuse you and hold you in its spell up to the final moment. “Scream a little. It’s good for you.” Cue Magazine
Painting Churches by Tina Howe
January 14 – February 12, 2011
At its core this is a beautifully written play about love - love that has survived the crucible of a long marriage, love that continues to sustain even in the dimming of the day. It is said that Tina Howe uses words like brushstrokes. “A theatrical family portrait that has the shimmer and depth of Renoir portraits.” N.Y. Times
Crimes of the Heart by Beth Henley
March 18 – April 16, 2011
Spend an evening with the sisters: Lenny, Meg and Babe as they wind their way out of trouble and into your heart. This Pulitzer Prize winner is a poignant, comical, touching story of life and love in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. “From time to time a play comes along that restores one’s faith in our theatre …” New York Magazine
Rounding Third by Richard Dresser
May 20 – June 18 or June 25, 2011
Come be a little leaguer as Coach Don and Coach Michael (a bit of an Odd Couple) lead you to victory or to, um, enjoyment of the game? A very comical and heart-warming look at baseball and fatherhood and life values. “This play reflects the passions, the joy and the pain that fills the heart of any person who has ever loved a child who was competing for anything, from sports to spelling bees …." San Jose Repertory Theatre
“Scripps Ranch Theatre continues to grow professionally and artistically," Drexler said. "Long-term season ticket holders tell us they are delighted with our productions. Those who are discovering SRT for the first time say they are impressed with the high quality and intimate theater experience.”
Now in its 31st year, Scripps Ranch Theatre consistently produces exciting and
entertaining professional quality theater. SRT has earned a reputation as one of the finest small theaters in San Diego.
All performances are held in the Legler Benbough Theatre on the campus of Alliant International University (formerly United States International University) on Avenue of Nations in Scripps Ranch, one-half mile east of the I-15/Miramar-Pomerado Road exit.
