Scripps Ranch Theatre Presents
"Holiday Memories"
Holiday Memories opens November 13, runs through October 12
Based on two short stories by Truman Capote, “The Thanksgiving Visitor” and “A Christmas Memory,” and adapted by Russell Vandenbroucke, “Holiday Memories” is about the unlikely relationship between a seven-year-old boy and his elderly cousin, Miss Sook. The time is 1932, the depths of the Great Depression. The place is small-town Alabama. Seen through the eyes of a seven-year-old, the events are unremarkable in themselves: preparing Thanksgiving dinner for a house full of guests and making 30 Christmas fruitcakes on a budget of $12.73. What transforms the events is the love between Buddy and Sook and the beauty and humor that Truman Capote finds in their adventures.
Holiday Memories is directed by Katie Rodda and produced by George Soete. The production features Sean Evans, Jill Drexler, John Garcia, Adam Traub, Jonathan Sachs and Cindy Lewis.
“You will love the play’s eccentric characters,” says producer George Soete. “You will marvel at the resourcefulness of people living on the edge of poverty. You will laugh at the rich, gentle humor found in everyday life. And you will not soon forget the loving relationship between two people living with joy among some of the worst times in American history.”
“Scripps Ranch Theatre chose to produce Holiday Memories because we were lured by the charm of the play. The characters are drawn with insight and humor, and the style of the play is imaginative and original,” said Jill Drexler, Scripps Ranch Theatre’s Artistic Director. “We were also pleased to offer a show that would appeal to all ages, and one that celebrates family and the connections between generations.”
Scripps Ranch Theatre season ticket prices for all five plays are $84 adults and $69 for seniors 62+, students, and active duty military. Seats for individual shows are available for $20. Students, seniors and active military seats are $18. Preview night tickets and season plans are available as well. Please visit the website for more details: www.scrippsranchtheatre.org.
